  2. The site routes most subscribers to a live chat agent - start it
  3. State plainly: 'I want to cancel my subscription.' Repeat once if offered a discount
  4. Ask for a cancellation confirmation email before you close the chat

Agents routinely offer roughly half price for a year to keep you. If you would stay at that rate, ask before cancelling.

If you subscribed through Apple

The New York Times cannot cancel a subscription that Apple bills. On your iPhone open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose The New York Times and cancel there. Check the receipt: if it came from Apple, that is your route.
